Federal Releases From Boone Custody

A federal inmate release connected with Boone County must be traced through the agency that controlled the person after the local booking. Boone County Jail has housed people for the U.S. Marshals Service, Bureau of Prisons, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but those systems do not share one public release archive. A Boone entry marked Released may mean transfer, not a return to the community. Use the federal case and USMS for a pretrial prisoner, the BOP locator for a sentenced federal prisoner, or ICE’s detainee locator and ERO channels for immigration custody. Preserve each agency’s exact status.

Federal Custody Systems Serving Boone Detainees

Boone County Jail is a county-owned facility operated by the elected jailer, yet its population is not limited to local criminal cases. An official 2022 ICE inspection described custody for ICE, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, USMS, BOP, Boone County, and nearby counties. The building last seen does not identify the legal custodian after movement.

USMS generally manages federal pretrial detention and movement. BOP manages sentenced federal custody and operates a public inmate locator. ICE manages civil immigration detention and its own locator. These roles can occur in sequence. A person may leave a Boone booking for another USMS contract bed, enter BOP custody after sentencing, or remain with ICE after local criminal custody closes.

Custody succession: “Released” from the Boone episode establishes that one county record ended, not where the person went next.

Choose the Correct Federal Release Route

Start with the known case type, identifier, and agency rather than placing the same name into unrelated systems. The best route changes with legal custody.

Custody typePrimary routeWhat it cannot prove alone
Federal pretrialFederal docket or clerk, then the responsible USMS districtA public historical release record comparable to BOP
Federal sentencedBOP Inmate Locator using a register or other federal numberFreedom from all supervision or another custodian
ICE detentionICE Online Detainee Locator plus facility or ERO confirmationThe Boone criminal-case outcome or release from every authority

A federal charge does not necessarily produce a BOP result during pretrial custody. Likewise, an immigration matter is not a BOP sentence. Search the system supported by the case and identifier.

USMS Pretrial Movement From Boone County Jail

The U.S. Marshals Service manages many federal pretrial prisoners and movements through contract facilities. Unlike BOP, USMS does not provide an equivalent public historical locator for released people. A defendant physically housed at Boone County Jail may transfer to another contract location, appear in federal court, or move into BOP custody after sentencing.

Use the federal docket for detention, release, sentencing, and dismissal orders. PACER or the federal clerk is the route to the case record. Compare the defendant identifier, case number, and Boone booking episode. Then contact the responsible USMS district when the order does not explain current movement. A court release order explains legal authority, but administrative departure and other holds still need custody confirmation.

  1. Confirm that the Boone episode involved a federal case or USMS hold.
  2. Find the matching federal docket by case number and identity details.
  3. Read the latest detention, release, dismissal, or sentencing order.
  4. Check Boone’s Released detail for the end of the local episode.
  5. If destination remains unclear, ask the responsible USMS district about the custody status it can disclose.

Do not describe a USMS transfer as release. Movement to a BOP institution is also a continuation of federal custody.

BOP Released Records for Boone County Cases

The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates released after 1982. Search with a BOP register number when possible. The locator also accepts FBI, DCDC, or INS numbers, or a name narrowed by race, age, and sex. Results can provide name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location.

Read the result literally. “Released” with a past date means the person is no longer in BOP custody. It does not establish the end of federal supervised release, and it does not exclude state, local, or immigration custody. A future release date is projected. “In Transit” describes movement and is not release.

The Bureau of Prisons official records page explains the scope of its locator records. This captured page shows how the agency frames the locator and older-record limits.

The BOP explanation should be paired with the person-specific locator result and the federal court record. It is not evidence that the person was ever booked in Boone County.

Older Federal Release Records and Supervision

For a federal release before 1982, BOP directs historical inquiries to the National Archives. A modern locator no-result therefore cannot erase an older federal episode. Identify the likely institution, case, federal number, and date range before approaching the archive.

Federal supervised release is a court-imposed period administered through the sentencing court and U.S. Probation. A BOP Released result does not say that supervision ended. Read the judgment and later court orders. If the question concerns a present term, use the sentencing court and appropriate U.S. Probation office rather than inferring status from the BOP custody date.

ICE Custody After a Boone County Release

Boone County Jail is listed as an ICE detention facility, making immigration follow-up a local necessity rather than a generic fallback. A county booking can close while ICE keeps custody, transfers the person, removes the person, or later releases the person from immigration detention. Each event needs its own label.

The ICE Online Detainee Locator offers two search methods. The stronger route uses the nine-digit A-number and country of birth. The biographical route uses exact name, date of birth, and country of birth. Under-18 records are excluded. The system generally covers current detainees and people recently released from ICE custody.

  1. Use the complete nine-digit A-number and country of birth when available.
  2. Otherwise enter the exact biographical fields and retry supported name variants.
  3. Compare the returned location with the Boone episode and known dates.
  4. Confirm through the named facility or ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations.
  5. Keep transfer, removal, and release from ICE custody as distinct outcomes.

An ICE release means only that ICE ended its custody. Another criminal authority could still hold the person. Conversely, resolution of the Boone criminal charge does not show that ICE custody ended.

Federal and ICE No-Result Limits in Boone County

A no-match in BOP can mean the person was a federal pretrial prisoner never placed in BOP custody, has a spelling or identifier mismatch, falls before the locator’s date scope, or is outside the system. A no-match in ICE can reflect spelling, age, recent transfer, data timing, the locator’s recent-release window, or record scope. Neither result supports the claim that the person was never detained.

Retry with the strongest unique identifier and exact biographical details. Check the Boone booking and federal docket. Contact the agency that controlled the episode when the public route ends. Dynamic location information can change quickly, so retain the date and source of each search.

Verify a Federal Release Connected to Boone County

The most reliable conclusion combines the local exit with the receiving system. First, search Boone’s official inmate application under Released and inspect the matched episode. Then classify the case as local, state, USMS, BOP, or ICE. The Boone County release-search guide covers this source selection across the site.

For a sentenced federal person, match the BOP register number and read status, location, and date. For a federal pretrial person, compare the docket order with USMS confirmation. For ICE, use ODLS and facility or ERO confirmation. State only what the sources prove: Boone custody ended; BOP reports no longer in its custody; ICE reports a location; or the destination remains unconfirmed.

If the Boone record itself is needed, request the existing booking sheet and release log from elected Jailer Jason Maydak at 3020 Conrad Lane, Burlington, Kentucky 41005. The records fax is 859-334-2296 and the jail telephone is 859-334-2143. Ask for actual release time, release type or comments, and transfer destination to the extent those fields exist and are nonexempt.

Records Boundaries for Federal Boone Custody

Boone County’s record documents the local booking and movement. The federal docket documents judicial decisions. USMS controls its pretrial custody information, BOP controls sentenced-custody locator data, and ICE controls immigration detention information. Sending one broad request to Boone County Fiscal Court will not replace those custodians, and Fiscal Court expressly is not the custodian of jail records.

Ask each source for an existing record it maintains. Do not ask the jailer to create a federal narrative or BOP to explain an ICE event. Sealed matters, protected information, active-investigation concerns, and other lawful limits may restrict disclosure. If a destination cannot be confirmed, report the Boone episode as ended and the next custody as unconfirmed.
